The Detroit Metro Airport (DTW) is Delta Airlines second largest hub and has a plethora of other airlines with flights all over North America, South America, Europe and Asia. While you wait for your flight to depart, there’s plenty to keep you occupied. DTW features plenty of restaurants serving local favorites to fuel you for your travels. There’s also a selection of immersive art to keep you occupied. You can also kill time by shopping including the new InMotion store featuring Briggs & Riley luggage located in the North Terminal near Gate 15.

Get lost in the art

Not your average exhibits

DTW has done a wonderful job incorporating unique and eye catching artwork throughout the airport. One of the highlights is the “Light Tunnel”, a walk thought installation designed by Pontiac and Detroit-based Foxfire glass. The walkway connects the three concourses and the McNamara terminal and is full of changing LED lights and varying sounds. The tunnel is a stunning spectacle that makes the most of the space. You will find yourself watching the changing lights in awe instead of hurrying to the terminal. But be careful not to miss your flight.

Another crowd favorite piece of art at DTW is the “Water Feature” located in Concourse A. The fountain is made of black granite and and 39-feet wide, making it hard to miss. Water shoots out of 45 different spouts, mimicking flight paths. The fixture makes for a relaxing backdrop while you are waiting to meet a friend or listening to music on your new Bose QC35 II headphones. You won’t have to worry about hearing the splashing of the water or the exclamations of the crowd because the headphones are noise cancelling. They are also the first headphones to feature Google Assistant. Just be careful you don’t stand too close to the fountain and get them wet.

Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina

Tell Chicago’s deep dish to watch out

Chances are you’re going to work up quite an appetite during your time at the Detroit Metro Airport. Luckily, there are plenty of dining options around the terminal. One of the most popular options is Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina, located in the Central Link.

Bigalora Wood Fired Cucina Pizza

Bigalora is a popular Italian restaurant with various locations throughout Detroit. Rather than serving up simple pizza, Bigalora prides itself on adding high quality toppings to their pizzas like clams, prosciutto and arugula. However, the secret is in the wood fire oven, giving the crust a signature char and an overall smokey flavor to the pizza. If you aren’t in the mood for pizza, Bigalora has a large selection of traditional Italian dishes, including plenty of different pastas. If you’re an early morning traveler, no need to worry. Bigalora also has an extensive gourmet brunch menu. Some of the highlights include the “Italian Breakfast” and the “Polenta Gorgonzola.” If by chance you aren't hungry and are just trying to take the edge off after a stressful day of traveling, Bigalora has an extensive wine list that competes with any Italian restaurant around.
